Pat McGrath’s Mothership VI: 1 Cosmic Eyeshadow Palette Will Take Your Makeup to Infinity and Beyond

Pat McGrath's Mothership VI

Pat McGrath’s Mothership VI is one of the ultimate eyeshadow palettes you will every find. I remember my very first eyeshadow palette, which I purchased while I was in high school and was made by Hard Candy (talk about a blast from the past), had a dazzling mint color scheme that was completely unsuitable for my skin tone. I never used it. So, when I was in my twenties, I decided it was time to “move on to larger and better things,” and I bought the first “Naked” palette by Urban Decay.

I put it through its paces, using it to complete practically the whole palette. When I had completed using that palette and had become increasingly interested in collecting makeup (which some people may fondly refer to as hoarding), I continued to add to my collection at an increasingly rapid rate.

Despite the fact that I don’t even use eyeshadow on a regular basis, my collection is becoming bigger and bigger with each passing day. For me, a high-quality eyeshadow palette holds a place that is truly unique and significant. I don’t even have to use it; all I have to do is admire its beauty while it sits on my vanity.

I never feel the urge to use it. I have well over fifty palettes, and I may even have more than that because I’ve lost count, which leads me to believe that I am an eyeshadow expert. If you haven’t seen the post where I revealed my all-time favorite palettes, you may access it by clicking HERE if you haven’t already.

Who IS Pat McGrath?

The majority of the items in my collection come from particular manufacturers or lines, such as Pat McGrath Labs. Pat McGrath is a British make-up artist who is recognized all over the globe for her one-of-a-kind techniques as well as the one-of-a-kind sources of inspiration that she draws from. For those who are not familiar with this legend: McGrath’s creative process is driven primarily by his desire to deviate from conventional norms of beauty and distinctiveness, which serves as the source of the majority of his ideas.

She is considered by Vogue magazine and a number of other experts to be the most influential make-up artist in the entire globe. She is referred to as “The Mother” by many people. Because of this, the ship is commonly referred to as the “Mothership.” The Mothership series is absolutely unique among other such works.

There is nothing else on the market that can be compared to it at this time. These palettes are nothing short of fantastic; they are the epitome of luxury, and for the most part, they are an indulgence. The magic lies in the duochrome, foil, and metallic pans, and once you’ve used them and been accustomed to them, you won’t be satisfied with anything else.

Pat McGrath Labs Mothership VI Eyeshadow Palette – Midnight Sun is a 10-pan eyeshadow palette that retails for $125.00 and features beautifully pigmented shades in a range of different formulations, some of which are Pat’s exclusive shimmers and metallics. The Mothership family has grown by one more palette with the addition of this one.

Pat McGrath’s Mothership VI Tones

10 x Skinshow Moon Glow – luminous platinum peach
Bronze Eclipse – bronzed taupe sheen
Vermillion Venom – burnished crimson matte
Xtreme Dusk – charcoal brown matte
Taboo – brown ochre matte
Wicked Envy – shimmering moss green
Blitz Violet Orchid – sparkling periwinkle violet
Jubilee – antiqued glittering gold
Astral Solstice – glittering platinum
Blood Moon 005 – metallic copper rose

Pat’s one-of-a-kind colours are what elevate this palette to the level of another winner. As I was saying earlier, I believe that the formula for each of these hues makes them completely unique. The unique colors reflect light in a manner similar to that of opalescent diamonds and produce the most dazzling impression when applied to the eyelid. I have a weakness for violet and purple hues, and when I saw the Blitz Violet Orchid shade, I immediately fell head over heels in love with it.

It is absolutely the stuff that my lilac fantasies are made of. The beautiful glitter that it has is completely chunk-free, and it has a silky smooth texture to boot. It is out of this world. PMG special shades are famous for their sparkle, and while it is true that all of them look best when applied wet, it is common to be able to apply special shades dry while still achieving a satisfactory level of intensity. Since the pigment is so concentrated in mine, I almost always use it dry.

Although I find that the mattes in all of the PMG palettes function quite well, I can’t help but feel that, in terms of a color story, they are becoming more and more redundant as more and more palettes are made available. They are all rather similar to one another (over the entirety of the Mothership series), and they unquestionably all have the appearance of browns and neutrals with warm tones.

Softer Processed Mattes

Since those hues and tones are the essential fundamentals, I can see how this would not be a problem for the average consumer who might only purchase one or maybe two palettes throughout their lifetime. On the other hand, for those of us who are collectors to the core, it would be wonderful to have a little bit more variety in the matte colors.

On the plus side, I particularly loved that the mattes in Mothership VI were softer pressed (in comparison to the prior Mothership palettes, all of which I own), as this made it much simpler to buff and blend the product.

In general, I am extremely happy with this palette, and each time I use it, I find that I am having a good time. I have high hopes that PMG will one day launch a 10-pan palette consisting solely of her signature hues. It is one of my hopes or dreams right now. During the Holiday 2019 season, PMG did produce four pan special hues only palettes, all of which I purchased and will be reviewing in the near future.
