In this blog post I will review the Niod Flavanone Mud Mask. You undoubtedly already know that I adore the Ordinary line if you are familiar with my site. When a good friend who is also into skincare told me about NIOD, which is a sister brand to the Ordinary line under the Deceim banner, I was immediately excited and interested. It might be referred to as an “at-home facial.”
The three-phase rinse-off Niod Flavanone Mud Mask ($39 for 1.7 oz) does not disturb the density or homeostasis of the skin’s surface. Flavanone mud has a different technique, even if it is a mask by definition. It promises to improve the skin’s appearance while preserving the dermal integrity of the skin. Let’s explore the phases in more detail.
Phase 1 is the Clearing/Decongesting Stage
Most likely, if you have combination skin like I do, you get congestion-related problems. Niod Flavanone Mud Mask claims to provide long-lasting decongestion (not just short term as many other products on the market today). Conventional muds or clays are ineffective at decongesting because they cannot solubilize surface contaminants. Additionally, using such products, the apparent decongestion effect is just transient. Flavanone Mud takes a whole different tack on this.
It first cleans away surface contaminants (including oils, water-soluble pollution, and general cosmetic buildup). The purification step is referred to as that. A mixture of sedimentary white clay, a clay rich in copper from Brazil, and a black Amazonian clay with exceptionally high concentrations of titanium and oligo-elements supports surface barrier function during the cleaning process.
Phase 2 is the Safeguarding Phase
One of the most distinctive features of this product is this. The composition of flavanone promises to provide an imperceptible physical barrier against external buildup. A marine polysaccharide from microorganisms found in Polynesian coral reefs is included in the formulation to combat urban pollution buildup, serve as a barrier against outside aggression, and improve adaptation to climate change. Also, it contains pure bisabolol, a component of chamomile flowers that has been proven to lessen the appearance of inflammation, as well as resveratrol, which shields the skin from dark spots.
Phase 3, Is the Response Phase, Comes Last But Not Least
Possibly the most significant of the three because it promises to produce long-term effects. In this stage, defense mechanisms against environmental congestion issues are introduced. The word “Flavanone” is present in the product’s name, emphasizing how crucial this stage is. Visible detoxification results from flavanone, which is made from the inner, white sections of citrus peel. It provides the ideal PH balance and solidity for the skin when combined with oleic acid.
I was especially interested in this product because the company cares about the integrity of the dermis and skin. Many masks that promise clear, bright skin don’t deliver because they use harsh clays, acids, and exfoliating mechanisms to get the most out of a single use. An aggressive approach like this often backfires because it can quickly change the pH balance of the skin, thin the skin, and cause inflammation, all of which may speed up aging in the long run without being necessary.
Niod Flavanone Mud Mask Astonished Me
Flavanone astonished me with how little of a layer I needed to apply. I frequently envision something incredibly thick and sticky when I think of clay. The problems become clear: product waste since only a very thin layer of the masque actually makes skin-to-skin contact while the remainder just lies on the face. To produce a dispersion mechanism that enables a very thin layer of the formula to cover the skin surface very uniformly, NIOD uses cutting-edge technology.
The company even asserts that a single 1.7 oz. bottle of product can be used for around 18 to 25 treatments (for reference, I personally got about 14 uses out of my first bottle, which I still considered a win). This mask has a six-month shelf life, so you should definitely use it up before then to prevent it from drying up or losing its effectiveness. It would theoretically last you exactly 6 months if used once a week.
As the brand had advised, I started using the accelerated procedure. Applying the mask five days in a row will make it more effective, and weekly use will keep the results. I experienced many highs and numerous lows as I worked through the accelerated approach. Possibly since I have sensitive skin, I was too bold to even try this procedure. Take extreme care and continue with caution if you have sensitive skin.
On day three, my skin started to feel like it was on fire every time I applied the mask. But I persisted in hoping that the advantages would outweigh the short-term suffering. It was an emotional rollercoaster for me to observe as my skin erupted and then subsided.
After using the first quick method and one more treatment once a week, my skin was much clearer, softer, and the pores were much smaller. With the weekly maintenance applications, my skin got better over time. Currently, in addition to my weekly maintenance, I frequently use this mask as a spot treatment (around my cheeks and nose, where I have the greatest issues with huge pores).
It’s important to remember that the application requires extra caution. Rich, copper-colored Flavanone Mud may stain your hands, towels, and nails (particularly if you have light nail polish on). I always wash my hands as soon as I can after using the product. In addition, I exclusively use paper towels. It not only prevents stains but also potential bacteria build-up, which happens frequently when using conventional towels.
A final word of caution: do not wear the mask for any longer than is recommended by the instructions (a total of 10 minutes). Any extra time won’t help get better results; instead, it could annoy people and make them feel like they’re on fire.
Overall, Deciem is a trailblazer that excels at developing intelligent and exceptional skincare that other companies haven’t yet thought of. Niod Flavanone Mud Mask is an excellent multitasker that can remove all the gunk off of your face. Your skin will appreciate it. It is a constant in both my regular skincare routine and my bathroom vanity.
